To go....Or NOT to go....

Okay mommies. I need some advice. I think I have my own answer, but it is always nice to be affirmed.

About 3 days ago, daddy and I noticed some small red bumps on Brayden's neck. Then they seemed to appear on his back and on the sides of his belly. They are not filled or have heads, and they don't seem to be itching him in any way. They aren't surrounded by a red rash or anything, just small raised red bumps!

Now...do we go to the doctor to get checked out? He has no fever or fussiness. But has had some brutal diapers and fussiness...then again he is teething. His formula was switched at his 9 month appointment, but that was almost 3 weeks ago. He has also started meats, but has had chicken AND turkey for almost 3 weeks as well. What to do!?!

I know research says only 6% of children have food allergies, so I don't think that's what it is. I'm thinking we should just watch it a few days since he is okay. What do you think????

Will did that one time right after a break in a fever. I always call and talk with Jill at Dr. W's office. She's my favorite. Good luck. Hope it's nothing serious :).

A few months ago Austin developed a red bumpy rash on his stomach and legs and I took him to the Dr. and before he closed the door behind him he identified it as a viral rash. He ran a low fever for like a day and then about 3 days later got this rash. Apparently the rash was just a symptom of whatever virus he had. He's gotten one or two more of these rashes since then with no fever and they've disappeared in a few days.

Brayden's rash sounds very similar to what Austin had and if that's the case there is nothing the Dr. can do. Sounds like you have the right idea to just wait it out!

I would wait it out, too. Unless he gets a fever, then you might want to consider going to the doctor. I say just watch the bumps to see if they go away on their own.
Benton, our 11 month son, had a rash similar to that too but it started behind his knees and inside his elbows. Like Jennifer said, it might be just a viral rash that the Doc can't do anything about it. We gave Tynenol to Benton since he wasn't eating. Hope he gets better.

Ran across your blog through Baby Furniture plus kids. I agree with the other moms...I bet it is viral and will run its course over the next couple of days. If he develops a temp I would go ahead and take him. If it was a food allergy it would have developed sooner than now since he has been on meats for several weeks. Hope he feels better soon.

I am Lesley Anderson's sister in law and have 2 kids, one 2 and one 4. Both of mine have had rashes and thought I would give you a heads up. There is a viral rash of a form of strep. Its the same virus adults get but little ones (typically under age2) are usually only diagnosed with it once the rash appears. Its one of the last stages, thank goodness. The rash usually is on the trunk of the body and looks like tiny needle pricks. While yours dosen't sound like this currently, watch out for this rash because they could need an antibotic for it to heal. The same looking rash can also follow about 3 days after a fever and the doctors usually refer to it as rubella? rash. Looks the same and that one dosen't require an antiobotic....who knows. Just use your mommy instincts!
